Morning Surprise

This spider web greeted me when I went out the back door this morning.
It was spun in the corner between the deck rail and the house.
How do they do it?

And The Winner Is

Last week end I posted two paintings, one by my granddaughter and one by me, and asked viewers to guess who did which painting.
http://www.marysmelange.net/2010/07/beautiful-sky.html
Linda, Becky, and Helen guessed correctly and this evening the Princess drew a name, and the winner is Becky. Becky you be receiving a gift in appreciation of your taking the time to view and comment on the paintings. Mine was the first, and the Princess's was second. Thanks everyone for looking and commenting.

Digital Montage

I am taking a Digital Montage class on line. Below are the results of my efforts.

Grandma Hill's Recipe is a story assignment.
This was to practice what we learned in lesson one.

Our first lesson and theme was Widow's Walk.
I'm not really excited with the results I achieved, but the process was
a great learning experience.

Beautiful Sky

The Princess directed Grammy in mixing paint to create
colors, and placement of the colors.
Can you guess who painted which one, top -bottom?
Leave a comment with your guess.
I will post the correct answer next week end.
I will have the princess do a drawing from all of the correct
answers and send a prize to the winner.

Wedding Shower Gift

This is a recipe book that I made for my niece's wedding shower.
It is a "stock their bar" shower. That must mean that they have
everything else that they may need. I included drink recipes and
family favorites.
This is the front and back cover and the inserts with labels for each section.

This is the back of the inserts and covers.

I printed recipes and glued them to decorative paper.

This is the inside of the book showing one the inserts with section label.

This is the inside showing the back of the insert and one of the recipes.

Front cover.

I painted the inserts and covers with acrylic paints, added paper cut outs,
and then went over them with a metallic paint wash.

Around the Neighborhood

Flying Low.

A sign of the times.

Road closed since April requiring us to detour in order to get to route 66.
We do get spoiled.

A new grocery store just around the corner. Yeah! We needed one.

A two tone tree.

Our local elementary School.

MoCon
The dining hall at Wesleyan University from 1962-2007.
My husband and I attended a few Fireman's Balls here.

Sketchbook Project

Be part of art. Join the sketchbook project.
I plan on participating in this very cool event.
Here is the gist... you purchase a sketchbook on this site. It costs $25 and will be sent to you. You choose a theme or let them choose one for you. You fill up the book however you would like... draw, paint, collage, whatever! Then you send it back to them postmarked by January 15th 2011. Sketchbooks are included in an exhibit that travels around the country! People go to the exhibit and are able to "check out" your sketchbook in order to view your work. You can also pay extra to have your book digitized so that you can view it later as it will be archived. Books are not returned to you. They become part of the permanent collect at the Brooklyn Art Library! Your book is barcoded so you can track it along its entire journey and see where it is and how often it is viewed. Anyone want to join me? For more information click here or on the logo to link to "The Sketchbook Project".
